Volleyball: San Perlita Went Unbeaten in District 32-1A. We’re Picking Lasara Anyway.

San Perlita did not lose a district match last season.

The Trojans beat Lasara twice.

They won the district.

They won a playoff match.

So naturally, we’re picking Lasara to finish first this year.

Hear us out.

Lasara went from one win in 2024 to 13 wins last season. The Lions also won a playoff match and enter 2026 with five seniors already listed on the roster.

San Perlita, meanwhile, has to replace seven seniors from last year’s 10-player listed roster.

Now the pick makes a little more sense.

Lasara Gets the Preseason Edge

Last season was a huge step forward for Lasara.

The Lions went 13-10 overall and 2-2 in district play after finishing just 1-16 the year before.

That is a serious jump.

They beat San Isidro twice, won a playoff match and showed they could compete outside the district.

Now they enter 2026 with a veteran group that includes Carianna Garza, Litzy Aguirre, Izabella Nieto, Isabella Velazquez and Itzelle Ventura as seniors.

That is enough continuity for us to give Lasara the preseason edge.

But there is one pretty obvious catch.

They still have to beat San Perlita.

The Trojans won both meetings last season, 3-0 and 3-1.

So if our pick is going to hold up, Lasara has to prove all that returning experience actually changes the matchup that mattered most.

San Perlita Still Owns the Best Argument From Last Year

San Perlita did everything you could ask for last season.

The Trojans went 13-6 overall and 4-0 in district play, beat Lasara twice and won a five-set playoff match against Medina.

They also produced strong results outside 1A, including a win over La Villa and a five-set battle with Santa Maria.

There is no question San Perlita was the best team in this district last year.

The question is what the roster looks like now.

Seven of the 10 players listed last season were seniors. Rylie Nieto, Madison Olivarez and Vyvian Trapala were the only listed underclassmen.

That is a lot to replace.

Still, this is a program that has been consistently competitive for several years, so nobody should assume the Trojans are suddenly going away.

In a Three-Team District, There Is No Room to Hide

That is what makes 32-1A different.

There are only three teams.

Lasara and San Perlita play twice.

San Isidro gets two shots at both of them.

Every match matters a little more because there are not many chances to recover from a bad night.

Last season, San Perlita owned the Lasara matchup.

This season, Lasara enters with the more established returning roster.

Those two meetings could decide everything.

San Isidro Has Something to Prove

San Isidro might have the strangest recent résumé in the district.

In 2024, the Tigers went 30-7 and finished 4-0 in district play.

Last season, they fell to 5-18 and 0-4.

Then they beat Bruni in five sets in the playoffs.

Thirty wins.

Then five.

Then a postseason win.

That alone makes San Isidro hard to completely write off.

The bigger issue for 2026 is turnover. Six seniors were listed on last year’s 10-player roster, leaving Juliana Lucio, Sadie Wilson, Itzel Carmona and Nallely Flores as potential returners.

That is why the Tigers start third in our projection.

But for a program only two years removed from 30 wins, a rebound would not be shocking.

San Perlita has the crown.

Lasara has the continuity.

San Isidro has something to prove.

We’re picking Lasara.

But until the Lions beat San Perlita, the Trojans still own the argument that matters most.
