Lyford’s Dyane Castillo Joins the 1,000/1,000 Club

Another RGV volleyball player has joined the 1,000/1,000 club.

This time, it’s Lyford senior Dyane Castillo.

Lyford Volleyball announced Saturday that Castillo has surpassed 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs, putting together two major milestones during a varsity career that started all the way back in her freshman season.

And when you look at what Castillo has done at Lyford, the numbers make sense.

She has been a four-year varsity player for the Bulldogs, developing into one of their top offensive weapons while also contributing in the back row. During the 2025 season, Castillo was leading Lyford in kills and was second on the team in digs when RGV Sports featured the Bulldogs during district play.

That ability to contribute on both sides of the court is what makes 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs such a cool combination.

But Castillo’s career has also been about winning.

Lyford went 14-2 in district during her freshman season, 16-2 during her sophomore year and 17-1 last season.

That’s a combined 47-5 district record during her first three years of varsity volleyball.

Now Castillo is a senior, a team captain and one of the veterans leading another Lyford team looking to make a run.

She’s also one of those athletes who seems to stay busy year-round.

Castillo has played varsity basketball throughout high school and has competed in both track and cross country. This past spring, she advanced to the UIL Class 3A Region IV track meet in the long jump and triple jump.

Volleyball, though, is where she just added two pretty big numbers to her résumé.

Castillo is also the latest Valley player we’ve covered to reach both milestones.

Earlier this season, Mission Veterans junior Mady Perez surpassed 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs.

We can’t say Castillo and Perez are the only active RGV players in the club because there isn’t a complete historical database to verify that. But we can say both are putting together impressive careers — and both still have volleyball left to play this season.

For Dyane Castillo, those numbers are another chapter in a four-year varsity career filled with winning, production and plenty of volleyball.

The best part?

She’s still adding to them.
