Four Years, 1,000 Kills: Lyla Trejo Reaches Milestone at Los Fresnos

There are plenty of ways to measure a four-year high school volleyball career.

For Los Fresnos senior Lyla Trejo, one number now stands above the rest.

1,000 career kills.

Los Fresnos Volleyball recently celebrated Trejo after she surpassed the milestone, adding another accomplishment to a varsity career that began when she was just a freshman.

Trejo, No. 8 for the Falcons, has been part of the Los Fresnos varsity program in each of her four high school seasons. MaxPreps lists the senior as a right-side and middle hitter.

Now she has four digits next to her career kill total.

More Than 1,000 Kills

The milestone tells part of Trejo’s story, but it isn’t the only accomplishment on her résumé.

As a junior in 2025, Trejo was named BISD Tournament MVP as Los Fresnos captured the tournament championship. The Falcons went on to win a district championship that season.

Trejo hasn’t simply accumulated kills over four years. She’s done it while playing meaningful volleyball for a Los Fresnos program that has consistently competed near the top of its district.

That has continued during her senior season.

Los Fresnos has put together another strong run in 2026, with wins over teams including Harlingen, Edinburg Vela, Mission Veterans Memorial and Weslaco. The Falcons also swept Edinburg in three sets on Sept. 12.

And Trejo still has time to add to the number.

From Freshman to Senior

That’s one of my favorite parts of this milestone.

Trejo didn’t arrive on varsity as an upperclassman. She was already on the roster as a freshman in 2023.

She returned as a sophomore, earned tournament MVP honors and helped Los Fresnos win a district championship as a junior, and now she’s finishing the journey as a senior with more than 1,000 career kills.

That’s four seasons of varsity volleyball represented by one milestone.

And her final season isn’t over yet.

1,000 kills don’t come from one great night or one great tournament. They’re built over time.

For Lyla Trejo, they’ve been built across four years at Los Fresnos.

From making varsity as a freshman to becoming a tournament MVP and district champion, Trejo has now added 1,000 career kills to that résumé.

And with volleyball still left to play in her senior season, 1,000 doesn’t have to be the final number.
